Did you know that your Aunt Leslie bakes a cake almost every day except when it is someone's actual Birthday? She says there is too much pressure and too much happening on a Birthday to bake a cake so she buys one instead and bakes the delicious homemade kind another day. At first I thought this idea was comical but I soon realized that she is right. It really does require a lot of work to make a Birthday a success especially if you are having guests over too. So do yourself a favor and bake a cake every day of the year except for a Birthday. You'll be so glad you didn't.
Birthday Tips:
1. See above.
2. If you decide to be ambitious and ignore #1 then make a sheet cake. They are so much easier and less time consuming than a layer cake. They also feed big groups very inexpensively which is a nice bonus.
3. Put pictures up of the Birthday Boy/Girl during the month of their birthday. Everyone loves to see pictures of themselves and it's sweet to see how much they have grown and changed.
4. Spread the Birthday out through the entire week. This helps ease the pressure off the parents and makes the birthday stretch a little bit more than just one day. You could make their favorite dinner or breakfast on the Sunday after their birthday. Or wrap one of their gifts (if there is more than one) and give them on another day that same week.
5. Give your child a card with a little bit written about them in it. You could even get them a book instead of the card and write a few of your favorite things or favorite moments in the inside. The book wont get thrown away or lost as easy as a card can.
